Tulsa is still reeling from the election of Donald Trump as president.
He won, but the country still has questions about how the president-elect plans to carry out his agenda.
Tensions between the new president and the country’s top leaders remain high.
The president-presidents transition team has not yet said what it will do with the administration.
In a move that could have repercussions for the country, Trump’s team announced Monday that the president will take office on Jan. 20.
The move could result in a temporary pause in some civil-rights protections, and could force Congress to re-evaluate some of its most important laws.
But Tulsamian officials, including the state’s governor, are still in a position to help Trump with any issues that arise during his time in office.
Trump won the state with 51 percent of the vote in the 2016 presidential election.
“I’m not a big fan of President Trump, but I respect his ability to be a president, and I respect the fact that he’s been able to do so,” Tulsas Democratic governor, Mark McDonald, told The Hill in an interview.
“We’ll just have to see how it unfolds and how that impacts the state of the state, but it’s an interesting question.”
Tulsawans new governor, Doug Jones, also spoke positively about the new Trump administration on Twitter.
The new administration has taken steps to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure and strengthen the economy.
And they are committed to the people of our great state.
Tulsan voters have spoken, and so have our governor and other officials in Tulsac.
#tulsawakers #Tulsa — Governor Doug Jones (@GovernorJones) February 2, 2021 In a tweet that has since been deleted, Jones said he is confident the new administration will “do the right thing” in the state.
“Trump will not be in office for long.
He will go to Washington and make deals with Democrats and liberals.
He is a leader,” Jones wrote.
“He is going to lead us to an even brighter future.”
But some of the problems that Tulsamas political leadership has faced in recent years have not gone away.
The state’s unemployment rate stood at 7.1 percent in February, up from 6.5 percent in January.
And the state ranks among the worst states in the nation in the number of children living in poverty.
“People are not feeling well.
They are not being able to work,” said one resident of the city of Tulsa.
“The economic outlook in Tulsa has not been good for a long time.
We don’t know if we’re going to get out of this recession.”
The state also ranked among the nations worst in the amount of crime.
The number of homicides in the city rose by 27 percent between January and February, and the rate of violent crime rose by 28 percent, according to the FBI.
In Tulsa, the new governor is tasked with creating a state-of-the-state strategy to improve the states economy.
He told The New York Times that the strategy will look at issues like job creation, infrastructure, transportation, health care and the environment.
The plan will also include measures to address the impact of the opioid crisis, the governor said.
“There is a huge opportunity for the next governor to step up to this challenge and be a leader and to put our state on a path to better economic growth and greater economic opportunity for all of our citizens,” he said.
